FMC Begins Second Annual Youth National Anthem Singing Contest

Philadelphia – March 1, 2013 – FMC Agricultural Products Group (APG) will host the second annual “Stand and Be Heard Anthem Singing Contest” beginning on March 1. The contest will provide agriculture students with the opportunity to showcase their musical talent for a chance to win scholarship prizes.

“Last year, we had 170 qualified entrants, representing 34 states and receiving more than 155,000 votes, who all tried for a chance to win a scholarship and share their agricultural story,” said Timothy Thompson, FMC Agricultural Products North America product manager. “This year, we hope to reach even more students, but our overall goal remains the same – to invest in farming’s future by providing scholarships for agricultural youth.”

Entrants must be a member of a national ag-related student organization, such as FFA, 4-H or a student NAMA chapter. Participants have from March 1 through June 15, 2013, to submit their entry online at www.FMCcrop.com/contest. A public online voting phase from July 1-14 will determine the top 20 contestants from the four FMC sales regions. This group will then be judged by a panel of musicians and youth representatives. From this panel, four finalists, who will be announced on Aug. 5, will advance to the next round.

Online voting for the finalists will take place Aug. 26 through Sept. 15. The four finalists will also have the opportunity to go to Nashville to work with a music producer and record their version of the National Anthem to be aired on RFD-TV at the end of Aug. Three of the finalists will each receive a $5,000 college scholarship. The grand prize winner will receive a $10,000 scholarship. Winners will be announced Sept. 18.

“It was exciting to meet our finalists, hear their agricultural stories and watch them work with music professionals in Nashville,” said Thompson. “The trip was a highlight of the contest for our four finalists in 2012, and we look forward to providing this opportunity to four new students this year.”
